OVER $50 MILLION RECOVERED
FOR OUR CLIENTS

Ocean City, Maryland

Know in some circles as the “White Marlin Capital of the World,” Ocean City has existed for more than 130 years. While the city claims 36 square miles within its borders, only five square miles is actually dry land; the remaining 30-plus square miles is water. Incorporated in 1880, just five years after its founding, Ocean City is a relatively small municipality with a population of just 7,100 permanent residents. However, during the summer tourist season the city’s population on the weekends reportedly can swell to 40 times its size in the off season.

Located in Worcester County, MD, Ocean City is well known up and down the Eastern Seaboard as a popular summer destination spot, hosting upward of eight million visitors in a single season. During those warm-weather weekends, the city actually exceeds the year-round population of all but a few Maryland counties; its weekend population can easily outstrip that of every other city or town in the state, save Baltimore itself.

Ocean City saw the opening of its first commercial beachfront resort back in 1869, six years before the city itself was established. In those early days, visitors would arrive via horse-drawn stage coaches or steam-powered ferries. Popular attractions included offshore fishing, nature walks and other coastal sightseeing activities, as well as beachcombing and relaxing on the area’s expansive seaside stretches. Signaling what must have been the area’s true future, the first large resort — The Atlantic Hotel — was opened to tourists on the Fourth of July, 1875.

Extending nearly 10 miles from the southern inlet of Isle of Wight Bay north to the Delaware state line, Ocean City boasts a wide array of hotels and motels; apartments, condos and residential communities; as well as retail shops, restaurants and other entertainment establishments. The boardwalk, located at the southernmost portion, is the site of Ocean City’s main shopping district and entertainment area. Hundreds of thousands of visitors walk through the area each year to enjoy the amenities this area has to offer.

But as with many highly populated places, and especially those that experience large seasonal fluctuations in pedestrian and automotive traffic, there are many opportunities for injuries, both minor and serious. As an oceanfront resort area, it is also not uncommon for an occasionally fatal accident to occur, such unintentional drownings, fatal pedestrian-car collisions and auto-bicycle crashes. Even freak accidents leading to death or permanent disability can occur, especially at local amusement parks, of which Ocean City has two.

As Maryland personal injury lawyers, the offices of Lebowitz & Mzhen, LLC, have a team of experienced car accident attorneys who are always prepared to assist the victims of these types of injury accidents recover costs associated with a trip to the emergency room or a prolonged stay at a hospital following an accident resulting from the negligence of another individual.

Legal actions for civil cases that occur in this part of the state can often find their way into the Worcester County District Court, located at 6505 Coastal Highway in Ocean City. The courthouse can be arrived at via Maryland’s Route 50 by taking the Salisbury/Ocean City exit, then traveling along Route 90 to Ocean City; once across the bridge, a left at the Coastal Highway will take you directly to the court building near the intersection of 65th St.

With water-related diversions being one of the largest draws for this particular area, the chances of a personal injury due to a water-related accident — or even a roadway collision in-town — can be quite high. Summertime brings hundreds of families with children all seeking a respite from the work-a-day world and a time for fun at the beach or at local restaurants and public attractions. But summer can also be a time of potential tragedy when the distractions of vacation activities leave a youngster unattended at just the wrong time.

Whether a child is injured in a pedestrian accident while crossing the street, hurt in the water or on the beach, or injured by the failure of a device, appliance or toy while playing, personal injury accidents can abound during the summer months. As professional auto, bicycle and pedestrian accident lawyers, Lebowitz & Mzhen is here to help parents of young victims who have seen their kids hurt as a result of someone else’s carelessness or outright negligence.

We fully appreciate the tremendous trust that parents place in our law firm every time we take on a child injury case. These kinds of injury accidents to minors are hardly infrequent, especially during the summer. In fact, data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) show that three kids under the age of 14 die in some kind of an accident every single day all across the U.S. Surprisingly, and even more disconcerting for parents, is that nearly 500 children are injured daily throughout this nation.

We at Lebowitz & Mzhen make it our job to represent victims and their families following these tragic and, many times, preventable personal injury accidents. Whether your child has been partially paralyzed, permanently disabled or killed because of the thoughtless actions of another individual, it is always important to speak with a knowledgeable legal expert in the field of personal injury law; if only to better understand your rights and the rights of your child following such serious and unforgivable occurrences. Those interested in having a one-on-one meeting with a Maryland personal injury attorney can schedule a free initial consultation us at 1-800-654-1949.
